New Armored Cables:

CMCP602 Extension Cable

We listened to our customers and have re-designed our CMCP602 and CMCP603 Low Cost Accelerometer Extension Cables with optional armor. The armor is smaller and completely potted into the Mil-Spec 5015 Connector. When a BNC connector is provided on the blunt cut end the armor is also completely potted into the connector. Standard lengths are 16, 32 and 64 feet. Custom lengths are available upon request.
STI News: New Office and New Name!
STI Texas FacilityWe have completed our relocation (2.8 miles down the road) to our new office facilities this summer. Our new address is 1010 East Main Street, League City, TX 77573.  As we are changing all Marketing and Technical Data to reflect the new address we have also taken this opportunity to change our name from "Sales Technology Inc." to "STI Vibration Monitoring Inc." As most of you know us as "STI" this will make that name official and make us easier to find in directories and on the Internet. All emails, web addresses and phone numbers remain the same. Link to STI Contacts.
Case History:
A customer in Singapore needed to monitor 13 vertical motor/pumps for high vibration in a hazardous area. They wanted the information accessible by their wireless DCS system and portable data collectors along with local LED displays showing the overall vibration levels.

CMCP530A Velocity Monitors
STI proposed that Industrial Accelerometers be used in conjunction with STI's CMCP530A Velocity Monitors. Each pump/motor combination would have an individual XP Enclosure with Local LED Displays for the overall vibration reading. The CMCP530A's 4-20mA output would then connect to the customers wireless DCS system for trending.

Thirteen XPsTo allow the customer a connection to the buffered Accelerometer signals, CMCP300 Series BNC Junction Boxes were installed in a safe area near the machine and connected via CMCP245 Intrinsically Safe Barriers mounted inside of the XP Enclosures.

After the customer approved the CAD design drawings provided by STI, the 13 XP Vibration Monitoring Systems were assembled and shipped within 30 days after receiving the order.
Tech Tip: 4-20mA to DC Voltage for Field IO
Current ShuntOccasionally a customer will ask us how to interface one of our Transmitters with a 4-20 mA output to a DC Input Field IO Card. What is important to understand is that even a 4-20 mA Input Card uses a shunt resistor to convert the 4-20 mA to a voltage usable by the card for measurement. If you have a DC Voltage IO Card simply install a shunt resistor across the input that will change the 4-20 mA to DC Voltage. A 250 Ohm 2% Resistor produces 1 to 5 VDC. Many of the IO Cards we have been interfacing with in the last few years use a 100 Ohm resistor which when installed across the 4-20 mA provides a 0.4 to 2.0 VDC signal (Ohms x Current = VDC). Remember to use your PLC's "Offset" setting to have 0.0 in/sec start at 4mA or the equivalent calculated voltage.
Did You Know ? (CMCP420VT in Class 1 Division 1 Area)

CMCP420XPHDCMCP420VT-T 2-Wire TransmitterSTI's CMCP420VT(T) and CMCP500 Series Vibration and Temperature Transmitters/Monitors are UL and CSA approved for Class 1, Division 2, Groups B, C, and D. The CMCP420VT(T) can be used in a Class 1, Division 1 Area by simply using the CMCP420XPHD Explosion Proof 3/4" Conduit Head.
